Wildwood Basketry Guild (WBG) – Wildwood Basketry Guild flyer
Wildwood Basketry Guild has about 40 current members. We meet each month, on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at Wildwood Cultural Center, 7645 Little Mountain Road, Mentor, OH 44060. The Guild was formed to help stimulate an interest in the art of basketry. In holding to its mission we often have weaving projects at our monthly meetings, put on Winter Weaveâ„¢ each February and during the remainder of the year hold workshops.
Wildwood Cultural Center, a renovated 97 year-old English Tudor mansion, with its beautiful grounds and cozy classrooms offers the perfect setting for our meetings and especially for Winter Weave.
Non-Members are welcome to participate in upcoming workshops. 2007 saw the appearances of Kay and Fred Kohler, Karen Zane and Cass Schorsch! We made great Nantuckets, ribbed baskets (MANY RIBS!!) and bark weavings. We were introduced to various types of weaving as well as new and different materials.
Also, consider becoming a member of Wildwood Basketry Guild, and taking advantage of the benefits of being a member. Send your name, address, phone (work and home), email address, a check payable to Wildwood Basketry Guild for $10 and a check payable to Wildwood Cultural Center for $15 to WBG Treasurer, Patti Watson, 102 Southwyck, Chagrin Falls, OH 44022.

I am a member of WBG for only a few years now. I was introduced to basket weaving through Girls Scouts as a child. Making handmade Christmas gifts was a tradition in my family so my sisters and I sometimes wove baskets for these gifts. I had not woven a basket in a very long time, and was reintroduced to this art when I was visiting a friends house (WBG member) and saw many baskets that she had made by attending the annual WBG Winter Weave conference. Following that house visit, I attended one day of the next Winter Weave conference, and have attended every Winter Weave conference ever since. One day is not enough for me anymore. There are so many baskets to choose from and so much fun, the best way to enjoy this conference is to come all three days…….and even then it is hard to pick which basket to make each day!

I am a second grade teacher who is interested in having a basket weaver come to teach 22 girls how to weave a simple basket. We are studying Native American cultures and would be delighted to hear from an instructor. April or May would be our best months.
Thank you!

I am interested in attending a basketweaving class. Is your organization having one on the 17th of July? I do not know if I want to join a guild without learning how to weave a basket first.

I am in touch with Char who I think you have already spoken to about this meeting. We will have a beginner basket for you and there will be Guild members at the meeting to help you. I will get back to you as soon as I know about the kit price.
